Each way betting is a popular option in online sports betting, especially for horse racing and similar events. It allows bettors to cover two outcomes in a single wager, increasing their chances of a return. To understand this better, let’s look at an each way bet example.
Suppose you want to place an each way bet on a horse named 'Quick Thunder' in a race. An each way bet consists of two parts: a win bet and a place bet. If you place ₹100 each way, the total stake is ₹200.
The win part means you are betting on 'Quick Thunder' to finish first. The place part means you are betting on 'Quick Thunder' to finish within the top positions, usually first, second, or third, depending on the race rules.
For instance, if the win odds are 10/1 and the place terms pay 1/4 of the win odds for the first three places, your ₹100 win bet pays out ₹1,000 if the horse wins (₹100 × 10), and your ₹100 place bet pays out ₹250 (₹100 × 10 × 1/4) if the horse finishes in the top three.
In this example, if 'Quick Thunder' wins, you get both parts of the bet winning: ₹1,000 from the win and ₹250 from the place, totaling ₹1,250. If the horse finishes second or third, you lose the win bet but still get ₹250 from the place bet.
Each way bets are ideal when backing an outsider with decent chances to place but less certainty to win. It reduces risk by providing a return even if the selection doesn’t finish first but still places well.
Indian bettors can find each way betting options on many online sportsbooks that offer horse racing, cricket, and other sports markets. Always check the terms for place betting, as these vary by event and bookmaker.
